How To Hit A Hybrid Golf Club

Here's a quick and dirty golf tip on how to hit a hybrid golf club.

A lot of golfers these days have a hybrid in their golf bag, but I'm suspecting quite a few of them aren't quite sure how to hit it. The question really lies in how you treat the hybrid club. Meaning, do you hit down on the golf ball like you do with a iron? Or do you hit it like you would with a fairway wood?

The one thing you need to remember is that a hybrid is designed to replace a mid to long iron, so you need to swing it like mid to long iron. Have the confidence to hit down and through the ball just like you would with your mid to long iron.

Now if you decide to hit your hybrid off the tee then you should tee it up a little higher than an iron and take a few practice swings just to get use to the different weight and feel of the golf club. This is especially true when you've just hit driver on the last few holes. You're all set so don't over swing, use a conservative tempo, and hit down and through the golf ball!

I'm glad you think so. Came back and let me know how you hit your hybrid golf club. Also tell me what kind of hybrid you have.

I hit it straighter and farther.prior to this tip, I was giving balls to woods as I had a terrible slice. I have Cobra bafflers 3R,4R, and 5R-not the DWS.
I only use the 3R now, LOVE IT.

That's great to hear pmny25. I always like hear someone benefit from a golf tip I've given. It makes me feel like I've given something back to the game of golf. Keep hitting them straight :)

Srixon 3H, hitting it straight with a little tail to the right at the end. Distance is good, but not fading, which is my natural shot at that distance. Any advice?

Hi Anonymous,

It could be a lot of things. From you comment it sounds like you're a lefty. Is that correct? Is the shaft flex on the 3H the same as with your other metal woods? How many times have you played with it?

I have trouble with my Nickent (2 iron loft) hybrid. I'm a good iron player (8 handicap), but I only hit the hybrid good about 60% of the time. Sometimes I pop it up, sometimes thin, sometimes great. All other clubs I hit solid about 90%. I've been playing with it for over a year now. Thinking of going back to my old 2 iron. Ideas?

I initially had a hard time with my hybrid as well. Like you, I replaced my 2-iron with a hybrid. I kept trying to hit it like a 3 or 5-wood. Once I started swinging it like my old 2-iron, I started hitting it pretty pure. I've started hitting it off the tee as well. My advice... hit it like you hit your old 2-iron.

The next time you go to the golf range bring you're 2-iron. Hit a few balls with your 2-iron and then hit a few with the hybrid. The idea here is to get in to the same rhythm you use for your 2-iron so you can hit the hybrid. Let me know if it works for you.

I got a Taylor Made Burner 4 H, does it mean that I should hit it like I hit a 4 iron, since I haven't use it with consistency since I try to hit like I hit my fairway wood..
